Who is Mackenzie Nicole Cowell? All Information about Her Death

Mackenzie Nicole Cowell, a 17-year-old American girl who was murdered in February 2010, went missing on April 1, 1992, and died on February 9, 2010. She was last seen in Wenatchee, Washington, at the beauty school she attended. Cowell, a senior in high school at the age of 17, informed her beauty school peers that she would be gone for 15 minutes before leaving on foot. Four days later, on February 13, 2010, her body was located on the Columbia River's banks. She had been stabbed in the neck, strangled, and had her head hit with blunt force trauma, according to a post-mortem examination.

There are additional credible suspects. Mackenzie's mother did not get along with her boyfriend. Mackenzie gave her mother a choice the day before she disappeared: she could stay with him or she could lose Mackenzie. An individual claimed to have seen a snuff video of Mackenzie being killed by drug dealers who believed she was an informant. After discovering no proof of the film, the police fired her. Later, she showed off a ring that she claimed to have discovered nearby Mackenzie's murder scene. That ring can be seen on Mackenzie in a picture. Because the ring could have been purchased anywhere, the police disregarded that. If the ring Mackenzie is wearing in the photo is not the one the witness claims it to be, the defense has requested that the police show it to them.

Discovery of body:

Mackenzie Cowell's body was found on the afternoon of February 13 on the banks of the Columbia River close to Quincy, Washington, at a resort town about 20 miles (32 km) from Wenatchee. She was discovered with her feet in the water, fully dressed. Her body was discovered about 50 yards (46 m) from a for sale vacant house. An autopsy revealed that strangulation and neck stab wounds had been the victim's causes of death. Cowell also sustained head trauma from a blunt object. It appears that the murderer made an attempt to amputate one of her arms after she passed away. Still inserted into her shoulder, a knife was discovered. No proof that Cowell had been sexually assaulted was discovered by investigators. At Cowell's memorial service, which was held at the Town Toyota Center in Wenatchee on February 25, about 1,800 people showed up.

Investigation

The MacKenzie Cowell Task Force, a multi-agency police organization created after the body of Cowell was discovered, was in charge of leading the investigation. Agents from neighboring counties and cities were on the team. Since the attempted serial bombing in the late 1990s, the dark crime investigation grew to be the area's largest multi-agency investigation. Police questioned more than a thousand people. Both the mother's boyfriend Joey Fisher and Mackenzie Cowell's boyfriend Joaquin Villasano were identified as potential witnesses. When asked if he knew Mackenzie’s whereabouts during a polygraph, Villasano performed poorly. He also allegedly had a heated argument with the young woman just before she vanished. However, the investigation completely exonerated both Villasano & Fisher.
